Governor Mobilized Additional Food and Water Distribution Teams to Hard-hit Areas
Hagåtña, Guam – The Office of the Governor mobilized three teams this week to deliver food commodity bags and cases of water directly to households. These areas were identified as most challenged considering infrastructure and utility service, including affected areas in Dededo, Yigo and Mangilao. Fleets distributed over 1,200 food commodity bags and 2,400 cases of drinking water from the Guam Department of Education’s Commodity Distribution Warehouse in Piti.
“We recognize there are those who were hit harder by the typhoon, who may be challenged in traveling to obtain help and services, so we deployed our food and water distribution teams to isolated communities in need of direct aid,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “This effort is ensuring we deliver essential necessities to those who are struggling most in this period of recovery, and building on our progress as we expand available assistance and support resources.”
“Together with federal partners, village mayors and coalitions of volunteers from across our island, we are dedicated to driving the work of recovery forward,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “We made disaster recovery resources available in every village, opened disaster recovery centers in every region, and distributed disaster recovery food commodities and water at all mayors’ offices and in areas of greatest need. We are coordinating the sustained delivery of aid, as well as alternative forms of assistance to help everyone rise and provide relief for all.”
